Feeling Crabby

Whew, madness lately. Madness. Been working late, pulling long hours and getting as much content out on our website as possible, especially in the face of local by-election-stuff that has been happening lately, which has been a fun but absolutely draining process! From the humble team of six that we had when I joined a month ago, we've added two new guys to the nutty team, and now the chaos, as they say, is off the charts!! For a near-complete list of who we are at The Nut Graph, check out this page (though our latest crew-member Z, in the pic below, hasn't been added yet!).

Otherwise here's some absolutely horrifying evidence of what we get up to when the boss ain't around. Criminal activity, it positively is. The horror. The horror!!

I don't know who did this, but I sure have the feeling people are going to say it's on our heads.

Oy. Buhbye.

The SCI FI Channel is ending Stargate Atlantis after five seasons. The show will go on, though, with a 2-hour movie that will air on SCI FI in 2009, and be released on DVD...

Orange is the Colour of her Dress

Check out this video, guys and girls. I'm not sure how long it's gonna remain here on my blog since I'm probably infringing copyright by stealing it off the official website of the product, but in a nutshell, this is a song featured in a local tv series called 5Jingga, with music by (fanfare!) Nick Choo (that's yours truly!!). It's produced by the media corporation Double Vision and aired on 8TV, so footage and broadcasting rights belong to them, while the production and engineering of this version of the song belongs to the music producers, Wasp Studios. I'm being upfront here about who this video clip really belongs to, though the music itself is mine. Lyrics (in Malay) are also by the Double Vision folks. But still, I'm aware none of that justifies my stealing it off their website, so... I'm truly sorry guys!!! *looks tremendously guilty* Anyhoo, before I'm asked to take this clip off this blog, enjoy it ok! And visit the official website sometime, where this clip is viewable anyway, so it's not a complete loss if this post is removed. Okay I'll shaddap now. Check it out. (PS did anybody remotely understand the title of this blog post?? I didn't. It was sheer randomness. Heh.)

Hey, all! Remember that little post sometime back about how I might wanna get back into cartooning again?? Well, here it is: my first foray in about three years, give or take, featured on The Nut Graph! Not really my bestestest work, in my opinion, but it's a pretty good start, I suppose! Check it out by clicking on the little snippet below (scroll halfway down the page that opens). And while you're at it, check out the whole darn site, ok! Arf, arf!! Just a sneak-peek of the cartoon here since it just might go against our copyright rules to post the whole thing. D'oh! ;)

Tired, Terrabytes and Tipsiness

Hello boys and girls. Whew, it's been a hectic few weeks, what with the launch of TNG (see previous post). I'd worked a seven-day week (kid you not!), Monday through Saturday and then on Sunday on standby at home, just to edit and upload and make the site what it is: riddled with little errors, bwahahahah!! (we call them 'gremlins'. Gremlins can be annoying). Unfortunately the process is less than ideal at the mo because the uploading is still done by the web design company and not ourselves, which, as you can imagine, can be tedious because we're depending on them to get stuff published. Still, they've been doing a great job, and so we're thankful for that, yay.

Today I had a day off, though it scarcely felt like it because I still checked my email and browsed the site and made corrections and had to answer to sms's and calls. I'm not complaining, but I am still rather knackered. Didn't help that I spent the day running around buying tech stuff for my computer (is anyone else absolutely sick to death of Windows Vista like I am and are dying, just dying to downgrade back to XP???) as well as groceries...

Speaking of which (ummm, the tech stuff, not the groceries), I bought a 1 terrabyte external hard disk today! Whoohoo! Mainly to back up this computer so that I can start on the downgrading process... the hard disk set me back by a bit, but it's a sexy thang, and boy oh boy is that a lot of space - 1,000 gigs. Scary thing is, I'm sure 1TB is soon gonna be the norm, and everyone would be laughing at anything less. Oy vey. Shudders.

And then later on I spent the evening burning copies of The Edge video performances to bring over to Sam's where we were having a little gettogether/ screening party thing (which we never got to officially do for FTL). That was pretty fun. There was lots of laughing at the video. And a lot of booze, which is why I'm a little bleary-eyed right now, more than ever. Heh. Anyhoo, just for the sheer sake of wasting your time, here's a snippet of the festivities, filmed with my little mobile phone camera... ;) Enjoy!

All Hail The Nut Graph!

Aaaand we're LIVE! Launched! Good to go! Viewable! Check it out by clicking on the logo. We're starting out with four articles as of today, Aug 15, but there'll (obviously) be more as we go along!! (And for my friends who are non-Malaysian... admittedly the content does cater more for Malaysians as it focuses primarily on politics and popular culture within this befuddled nation of ours... but... y'know... just... check it out anyway, y'know? Hmmmm? Solidarity and mutual support and all, right?? "What eh verrrr," I hear some of you dismissing. Well poo to you too.)

Okay back to work I go... ;)

Nuts! Cake! And So On, And So Forth

Wassup folks!! Well, it's the 14th of Aug, and tomorrow, the 15th, is when we officially launch our new news site, The Nut Graph! (Check it out at! We're all abuzz at the moment at the excitement of getting it out there, wheeeeee!! Meanwhile, today is my colleague Shanon's birthday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHANON!! Mmmm, cake. (Actually, there's no cake. Sigh.) What else...? Not a great deal, actually. Been taking it easy at home, watching tv shows, working on my upcoming new website, also launching soon (hehee!!!)... Ummm. That's it, I guess. It's nice to have things quiet and stable for a while. Soon there'll be a project in KLPac with Shakespeare's Sonnets; and then there'll be KLPac's Christmas production (still hush-hush!); and then there'll be The Edge 2009... Oy gevault!! The calm before the storm, this is. The calm before the storm. Oooer. *looks around nervously*

Awwwww, my cousin Cecilia who lives in Sweden has just had a lovely baby girl!! :)) She's the first in my generation (on either side of my family) to have a baby, so if you're one of those people who considers your cousin's kids to be your niece or nephew, that would make me a first-time uncle... though according to others, your cousin's kids are your second cousins, which would make me... um... a first-time second cousin. Or second-cousin haver. Wat?? Oy. What a headache. :P

The point is, my uncle Steve is now a grandpop, and my maternal grandfolks are now great-grandfolks, and the joy has been running over (says Mum, who's been on the phone with all of them, arf). Anyway, here are a couple of pix Uncle Steve sent. No name yet for the dear girl. I'm going to try to wriggle my way into offering a suggestion or two.... :)))

Heart-Thumping Suspense...

Boy, we sure have some exciting Saturday nights, don't we...?

Arf arf. Be back soon!!

Blink Blink

Yo wassup! I'm in the office right now. No pictures taken yet, but here's a shot of me, courtesy of my colleage and dear friend Winnie, against one of the bright orange walls of the office. Eeek. Scaryness. (And that's spelt wrongly. Me, the copy editor. Awesome.)

I like my stripey shirt.

Work's been going well. Steady is the inflow of articles to be edited, so I'm occupied most of the day, which is cool. It's starting to pile up, though, so perhaps I oughta stop procrastinating by doing silly things like blogging, and actually focus on editing instead, LOL. Oh mein gott, I hope my bosses don't read this blog. Arf arf. ;))

Seriously though, I need to get back into the routine of waking up "early" (circa 915am), which I've not been doing since... probably 2005, hahaha. So now it's all weird, and I'm eating breakfasts for crying out loud, and I'm still sleep-deprived because my mind only stops working at 4am-ish while my body cries out for rest. Last night I went to bed at 2am... but didn't fall asleep till after 4. Terry called for breakfast at 815. I rainchecked. Heh.

Anyway, back to work I go. More updates on Neek's working life (and life in general) later!!

The Edge: Smile!

Slightly contradictory to what I mentioned in the previous post, here's the cast and crew of The Edge, taken after the first performance night; courtesy of the lovely Janet Lee, from whose site I took the pics and from whom I didn't obtain any permission to reproduce them here. :)) (Thank you, Janet!!)

New Jobs, New People & Nut Graph!

Hi all! Yay, yesterday was Nick's first official day on the job, in the new office! It went really well - had two articles to sub-edit straightaway, which was simple enough - though I was really rather sleepy as I had a tough time snoozing the night before, probably because of all the pre-first-workday jitters, hehe! But yeah, it was good, and I'll post up some pics of the office as soon as I have a chance to snap 'em.

Work ended circa 630pm, but after that we had our official officewarming party!! So there were people and booze aplenty. It was pretty cool; I got to catch up with old colleagues Michelle G and Grace C again; and got to meet some pretty cool people, such as Winnie's boyfriend Johnny (yo, peoplessss!). Left the office at about 11pm, knackered, funned out and tipsy, and then came home and promptly paid that sleep debt. Heh.

OH YEAH, I totally forgot I haven't actually mentioned which news website I'm working for. Check it out... are you ready for this? - it's The Nut Graph! How's that for an awesome name! Basically it's a journalism term that refers to the point of the whole story, the paragraph that sums it up in a nutshell. Terrific, I thought; makes such a refreshing change from the deluge of other local news sites that all contain the word 'Malaysian' in it, as if news from/on one country is strictly exclusive and can't be shared with the rest of the world. But yeah, go check out the site; nothing much up yet as we're launching officially mid-August (and I don't think my bio is up just yet), but it'll get there. Now what I'm really looking forward to is verbally telling people I'm from The Nut Graph. "The nut what?!" Bring it on!!

Finally, I know I haven't posted up more vids from The Edge yet, but I'm taking a break from hearing/seeing any part of the whole musical for a while. I had a meeting with the producers from KLPac, i.e. our big bosses, and I'm so pleased to say they loved it and were very impressed. So now Chris Ling and I definitely have their support, and they had suggestions on how to improve the show, and February 2009 looks like a definite go. Hence why I'm taking a break from it for about a month before coming back to take a look at it "with rested eyes", as it were. I can't believe it's scarcely been a week since we finished the run... it feels so long ago!! Ah well. Anyhoo, I might put up a video or pics if I feel like it, but it will be slow in the coming ok? ;)) Cool.

Until next time... buhbye!
